4th EPA Academia Summer School
29 May – 1 June 2014 – Strasbourg

“One of the most successful educational activities on the international level
in the field of psychiatry” – Past Summer School Scholar

The European Psychiatric Association is pleased to announce that its 4th EPA Academia Summer School will take place 29 May – 1 June 2014 in Strasbourg (France). Addressing the topic of “Comorbidity between mental and physical disorders” the Summer School aims at developing the participants’ ability to recognise comorbidity and provides theoretical and practical lessons on how to manage patients with both physical and mental disorders.

The recognition and management of mental and physical illnesses occurring together is a major challenge for medicine of the 21st century. Comorbidity worsens the prognosis of both comorbid disorders unless a correct diagnosis is made early and treatment for both conditions provided simultaneously. The current trend of fragmentation of medicine makes the challenge of comorbidity even more serious.

This 4th edition of the EPA Academia Summer School will be led by a renowned faculty including Prof. Sartorius, Prof. Lauber, Dr. Parmentier and Dr. Hanon.  It is tailored for psychiatrists and other medical specialists interested in comorbidity between mental and physical disorders who are either trainees or within 2 years of completion of specialist training, and who are residing in a country that form part of the World Health Organisation Europe region.

The application system will open mid-November 2013 and the deadline for applications is 15 February 2014. Up to 25 best applications will be selected by the Jury to receive a Scholarship from EPA to attend the Summer School.
